About Phoronix

Phoronix.com was founded on June 5, 2004 by Michael Larabel, whom currently serves as the executive editor of Phoronix.com and owner of Phoronix Media. Michael had started Phoronix.com after seeing the lack of online media that had covered alternative operating systems, primarily when it came to GNU/Linux hardware reviews. The goal of Phoronix is to provide GNU/Linux, Solaris, and alternative operating system readers with the most detailed and up-to-date information in the computing world. Phoronix is especially well regarded for its Linux graphics articles and with time has become the leader in providing original GNU/Linux hardware content. The name Phoronix consists of the prefix "phoro" and the root "NIX", whose combined meaning may be translated as "Linux movement". Starting in April of 2007, Phoronix had expanded into providing Solaris news and reviews.

In July of 2006, Phoronix had launched the Phoronix Forums. Phoronix is based inside the United States with additional contributors and readers around the world.
