Intel Atom E3825 "Bay Trail" Linux Benchmarks With AAEON

AAEON, a company owned by ASUS that specializes in industrial and embedded platforms for applications ranging from railroads to the military, sent over their AAEON EMB-BT1 board that's loaded with an Atom E3825 Bay Trail SoC. A full Linux write-up of this exciting mini-ITX board will be coming soon on Phoronix, but for some weekend benchmarks are some initial results for the E3825 when running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

The EMB-BT1 is a mini-ITX motherboard with support for up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, mSATA, one PCI Express x1 slot, and is rated for use by AAEON's industrial computing customers. This is our first time looking at a board from AAEON and so far it's been quite interesting. The Intel Atom E3825 SoC that was launched at the end of last year is a dual-core SoC with 1.33GHz clock speed, 1MB cache, and has a six Watt TDP. This Bay Trail SoC still features the Valley View (Ivy Bridge era) graphics and its GPU core on this low-end, low-power SoC is rated to run at 533MHz.

This E3825 Atom comes in slower than the Celeron N2820 as found in the Intel Bay Trail NUC Kit with that Celeron Bay Trail clocking up to 2.39GHz and its GPU topping out at 756MHz. You can see some of my earlier Bay Trail NUC Linux benchmarks within this article.

I'm currently working on a full review of this AAEON mini-ITX motherboard with Atom E3825 SoC for a full-length article on Phoronix in the days ahead... However, as a teaser are some initial benchmarks for those curious about the performance potential out of this six Watt Intel 64-bit SoC. The full review will contain comparisons against other hardware, but this weekend you can benchmark your own low-end system directly against these results. Simply install the Phoronix Test Suite on the Linux distribution of your choice and then run phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1404058-KH-AAEONINTE26.
