Oracle Solaris 11 Is Finally Released

Posted by Michael Larabel on November 09, 2011

It's been seven years since the release of Solaris 10, and about one year later than originally slated, but Oracle officially released Solaris 11 today.

Oracle Solaris 11 is here and Oracle has proclaimed it to be the "First Cloud OS" and also the "first fully virtualized operating system."

Oracle also is pushing the Solaris Zones, ZFS, and security features of Solaris 11 with this being the first major Solaris release since Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems.

Those interested in Oracle Solaris 11 can find details in the Oracle press release.

Last year marked the initial release of Solaris 11 Express, but sadly Solaris hasn't been too interesting to us since Oracle killed off OpenSolaris and other changes happened under Oracle's control

For those wanting an open-source Solaris platform to play with, try out OpenIndiana.
