AMD Releases New gDEBugger For Linux

Posted by Michael Larabel on April 27, 2012

AMD has brought back the gDEBugger software to Linux.

The gDEBugger software is a (closed-source) utility for debugging OpenCL and OpenGL code. The gDEBugger software was originally written by a company called Gremedy that was subsequently acquired by AMD. After AMD acquired them, the Linux version wasn't maintained, but now it has reappeared.

The gDEBugger 6.2 release happened last week but hasn't been widely reported on yet. In fact, this is new Linux supported release I had just learned about while at the Valve offices on Tuesday that it was brought up there by one of the Linux developers that this GL/CL debugger back on Linux.

Besides "introducing Linux support", other changes for gDEBugger 6.2 include a new standalone user-interface for Linux and Windows, support for OpenCL kernel and API level debugging on AMD Radeon HD 7000 series GPUs, OpenCL 1.2 beta drivers, automatic update notifications, and various feature enhancements. There's also some stability improvements too.

Find out more about gDEBugger 6.2 for Linux and Windows (in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors) at developer.amd.com. While closed-up, this software is available for free download.
