ClearOS 6.2 Moves A Step Closer To Release

While all the major RHEL derivatives are now up to version 6.2 in par with upstream Red Hat Enterprise Linux (see the RHEL vs. Oracle vs. CentOS vs. Scientific Linux benchmarks), ClearOS is still in beta for its 6.2 milestone.

ClearOS, which formerly was known as ClarkConnect, is derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux / CentOS. While ClarkConnect was known for being a web-based gateway/network server, since the ClearOS 6.1 release it's been a full RHEL-based OS as well.

The ClearOS developers announced yesterday via their web-site that ClearOS Community 6.2.0 Beta 3 is now available. This third beta release of ClearOS 6.2 has new content filter, Flexshare, Samba, remote server backup, print server, password policies, and network visualizer apps. Within the professional version of this Linux operating system is also Google Apps Synchronization, Active Directory Connector, and Central Management apps.

ClearOS 6.2 Beta 3 should be the last development release before going gold. The community version of their platform is free while the professional edition bundles in technical support and other features while targeting businesses, education, non-profit organizations, and other entities.
