Strawberry Perl for Windows was much slower than Perl on Linux.

Windows 10 Pro vs. Linux Distributions Performance

Windows was running fast for the libjpeg-turbo tjbench JPEG benchmark. Only coming out ahead of Windows 10 was Clear Linux with its tuned CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS by default on the operating system.

Lastly is a look at the Python 3 performance across the operating systems with PyBench. The Windows performance was right in line with the other Linux distributions sans Clear Linux being a great deal faster than the other tested Linux distributions.

With this latest Windows vs. Linux benchmarking soirée, Clear Linux was winning about half the time (47%) while winning 21% of the time was Windows 10 followed by Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Solus. Losing most often with its out-of-the-box performance was the up-to-date Fedora Workstation 27 at 42% of the time followed by Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and then Windows 10.

Keep in mind though this was a limited number of tests run in this article today and on just one system. As Ubuntu 18.04 LTS nears plus having more time to run a greater variety of tests on different platforms, stay tuned for an interesting spring of benchmarks with today's work basically being a glimpse at how Windows 10 is currently performing against Linux. The Windows 10 Spring Update will also be tested against Linux when its release happens as well as a fresh look at the Windows Subsystem for Linux performance.
