In other tests we have carried out, we found Ubuntu 9.04 to boot significantly faster than Ubuntu 8.10. When using this old VIA hardware, Ubuntu 9.04 still booted much faster than its predecessor. Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) booted in 57 seconds with the 1GHz Nehemiah with a 19MB/s maximum throughput. Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) booted with the same hardware and settings in just 35 seconds with a maximum throughput of 26MB/s. More processes had started by default with Ubuntu 9.04, but it booted much faster.
