Ubuntu 14.04 Now Runs Well On The 2013 MacBook Air, Beats OS X 10.9 In Graphics
With the more demanding and popular open-source, cross-platform Xonotic first person shooter, Ubuntu 14.04 on the Apple MacBook Air continued to shine. With the varying OpenGL image quality levels, Ubuntu 14.04 was leading over OS X 10.9.2 on Apple's hardware. Yielding more potential for the future, when using the Linux 3.14 kernel and Mesa 10.2 development code, the frame-rates rose even higher.
So far these initial Ubuntu Linux vs. OS X OpenGL gaming performance figures are very promising for the year-old MacBook Air... Stay tuned for more Linux game tests, battery life performance, and testing other workloads from this ultra-portable system once everything settles down after the Game Developers Conference and other travels that led to this testing being cut short.
