Ubuntu 12.10 Prepares To Improve Linux Performance

The Cairo performance is already much better under Ubuntu 12.10. Between Linux 3.2 and 3.5 there have been a number of Intel DRM driver improvements within the kernel for Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge hardware. The move from xf86-video-intel 2.17 to 2.19 for the X.Org driver also has many fixes and other enhancements. For Ubuntu 12.10 they are also looking at enabling Intel SNA acceleration by default, which will boost the 2D performance over what is found in earlier Ubuntu Linux releases.
