Ubuntu 12.04 ARM Performance Becomes Very Compelling
Wondering how well the sub-$200 (USD) PandaBoard ES compares to other low-power Intel x86 hardware like the Atom and original Pentium M? The original PandaBoard ES benchmarks and comparison are now out of date with these night-and-day improvements thanks to hardfp and the proper OMAP4460 kernel support, but fear not as in a few days on Phoronix will be a new performance comparison between the TI OMAP4460 PandaBoard ES and some x86 hardware. Right now you can also see how your own hardware compares to the PandaBoard ES and the latest Ubuntu 12.04 LTS code by running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1201286-BY-PANDAUBUN10, which will reproduce the tests (including test installation) in a fully automated manner thanks to the Phoronix Test Suite and OpenBenchmarking.org.
