In a small sub-set of the open-source Linux CPU benchmarks used there were some slight performance differences, but overall the CPU-bound workloads are close to the same speed between Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 in their current development forms since the GCC compiler is the same and their versions and configurations for the Linux kernel are close at the moment.

Stay tuned though for continued Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux testing as these -- and other Linux distributions -- advance in 2014.
