Ubuntu 24.04 Helping Achieve Greater Performance On Intel Xeon Scalable Emerald Rapids
It's not really surprising but Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is performing better than Ubuntu 22.04 LTS especially given the newer kernel, compiler, etc. It's nice to quantify the difference though and ensure there are not any major regressions. With the Quicksilver HPC benchmark the Xeon Platinum 2P server the OS upgrade could net as much as a 9% improvement over the current LTS release.
For some workloads there was a nice uplift even going from the recent Ubuntu 23.10 release to the current Ubuntu 24.04 LTS development state.
Especially for those currently relying on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, the move to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS can yield some nice improvements for those on relatively recent hardware at least.
