For the Intel HD Graphics 3000 Sandy Bridge, the performance has been flat in recent times with not much work happening to the classic i965 OpenGL driver in Mesa or other changes. Though interesting enough the Intel Sandy Bridge graphics in some of the games was lower after Ubuntu 17.04.

Ubuntu 13.04 was the first release with working Sandy Bridge support out-of-the-box and it matured well in Ubuntu 13.10 while only relatively minor shifts since that point.
