Sun Studio 12 vs. GCC3 vs. GCC4 Benchmarks

In the WAV to MP3 encoding test through LAME, Sun Studio 12 was not the fastest, but by far, it was the slowest. It took almost three times longer to encode the MP3 file when LAME was built with Sun Studio 12. GCC 4.0.2 was the fastest while GCC 3.4.3 was just two seconds slower.

Sun Studio 12 still trailed behind both versions of GCC in the Ogg encoding test, but by a smaller margin. GCC 3.4.3 and GCC 4.0.2 each took 27 seconds to encode a WAV file to Ogg, but Sun Studio 12 took 37 seconds.
