First up is a look at the Blender 3D modeling software running on the CPU. The Ryzen 5 2600 isn't far behind the 2600X model while saving about $30 USD. The Ryzen 7 2700 in this test performed in line with the Core i7 8700K while the Ryzen 7 2700X delivered the best performance of the nine processors tested.

While all the Ryzen CPUs were using the Wraith Prism LED cooler, it's no surprise that the non-X CPUs were running cooler than the X models. The Ryzen 5 2600 while running Blender had an average temperature of 59 degrees and the Ryzen 7 2700 was at 55 degrees.

And while being stressed hard across all cores with Blender, the Ryzen 5 2600 and Ryzen 7 2700 had a similar power draw at 155~157 Watts while the Ryzen 5 2600X installed led to an average system power consumption of 186 Watts and 210 Watts on the Ryzen 7 2700X. The Core i7 8700K system meanwhile came in at 169 Watts.

Running the OpenMP parallel Rodinia program with its computational fluid dynamics solver, the Ryzen 7 2700 was running in line with the Core i7 8700K. The Ryzen 5 2600 meanwhile was just a little bit slower than the 2600X.

The pairing was similar with Rodinia's Lava MD scientific test too.
