Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Beta 1 Looks Great, Performance Is Great

For some initial figures from my benchmarking of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Beta 1 this week, the first results coming out are from an Intel Core i7 3960X "Sandy Bridge" Extreme Edition system (six physical cores plus Hyper Threading) when comparing the performance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 Beta 1 on the same hardware (in the auto-generated table ignore the CPU frequency differences due to RHEL7 using the Intel P-State cpufreq driver and it now reporting the turo boosted frequency over the base frequency, etc) and using the "out of the box" settings/packages of each Red Hat OS release.

Additional benchmarks of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Beta 1 are being done and will be published in the days ahead, including a look at how RHEL7 Beta 1 stacks up against Ubuntu 14.04 LTS in its development state and other enterprise-focused Linux distributions. Again, all of the benchmarking was handled via the Phoronix Test Suite for making the testing very streamlined, automated from test installation to execution and analytics, and in a fully-repeatable and proven method.
