Kicking off with the Apache static web-server test profile, Scientific Linux 6.1 and CentOS 6.1 both were faster than the largely commercial-focused Oracle Linux Server 6.1. Scientific and CentOS were both over 20% faster than Oracle's Linux distribution.

For the BlogBench disk benchmark, Scientific and CentOS were both faster for the read test but when it came to the write benchmark the Oracle Linux Server 6.1 release finally sprung ahead. Again, all three were using the Linux 2.6.32 kernel with the EXT4 file-system and the same GCC release (v4.4.5).

For the Java-based Bork file encryption test, Scientific and CentOS were both faster.
