While the OpenSolaris 2009.06 release ships with the NVIDIA 180.xx driver series that contains so many improvements over the 177.80 release found in last year's OpenSolaris winter update, the Java 2D microbenchmark performance was virtually unchanged when it came to vector graphics.

There was a small gain with OpenSolaris 2009.06 when it came to text rendering, but really for the most part the performance was very close.

The LAME MP3 encoding performance was quite similar between the two OpenSolaris releases, but when LAME was built under GCC 4.3 it was slightly slower than with GCC 3.4.

The Ogg encoding results were all quite close.
