Xonotic at least improved a little using the Oibaf PPA + Linux 3.17 atop Ubuntu 14.10, but until the performance is in better shape, NVIDIA Linux gamers are best off using the binary blob.

Plot3D also saw some improvements in this synthetic test out of using the Oibaf Mesa 10.4 packages plus Linux 3.17.0 stable kernel.

Furmark didn't see much change and the proprietary NVIDIA driver was obviously still many times faster.

The Nouveau driver has a long way to go on the performance front, even for just getting stable re-clocking that can be enabled by default and automatic switching between performance levels, but at least they're making progress. For common Linux desktop users the Nouveau driver may work well enough, but for Linux gamers with NVIDIA hardware their proprietary driver is really the only suitable choice.
