MeeGo Netbook Performance: It's Beating Ubuntu & Co

With the Blowfish performance via John The Ripper, MeeGo again was the fastest distribution while the three others had performed very close.

With the 7-Zip compression test, we have another win for MeeGo where it narrowly beat out Ubuntu Netbook Remix, Fedora, and Moblin.

Next we monitored the battery power consumption for the Intel Atom netbook (using the Phoronix Test Suite, of course) as the system idled for one minute followed by running OpenArena, John The Ripper, and then OpenSSL. When it comes to the battery power consumption, consuming the least amount of energy was Fedora 13 with just 12.4 Watts. However, Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 came in right above that at 12.6 Watts and then MeeGo 1.0 was at 12.8 Watts. While MeeGo did not do the best, it was an improvement over its Moblin 2.1 predecessor that consumed noticeably more power of 15.0 Watts. However, much of this extra energy consumed by Moblin 2.1 is likely due to the LVDS panel not dimming under this distribution where it had on the other three operating systems.
