Apple Mac OS X 10.7.4 Lion vs. Ubuntu Linux

Next up are some disk benchmarks between Mac OS X and Ubuntu.

For the Compile Bench "Compile" test, the performance between Mac OS X 10.7.4 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was similar, but there appears to be a small performance regression with the EXT4 file-system on the Linux 3.5 kernel as currently used by Ubuntu 12.10.

The initial create test also showed the performance of Ubuntu 12.10 dropping.

For the PostMark mail server disk benchmark, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS performed much faster than Mac OS X 10.7.4 from the mid-2011 Apple Mac Mini. Again, however, the performance of Ubuntu 12.10 for this benchmark did regress.
