Beginning with the ioquake3-based Tremulous game, the performance of Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 4 and OpenSuSE 11.2 Milestone 6 was virtually identical. However, this is of no surprise considering that both distributions are running with the same version of Mesa and nearly the same kernel. Mandriva 2010.0 Beta 1 results were missing from some tests due to some problems with its stock configuration.

Ubuntu did the best while Mandriva did the worse when it came to the LAME MP3 encoding performance, but between the three distributions, there was just a four-second difference.

Ubuntu also was the fastest when it came to the FFmpeg performance with a time of 91 seconds while both OpenSuSE and Mandriva were at 94 seconds.
