The Unigine Tropics performance for Intel Haswell was also much faster on Microsoft Windows 8 over Linux, even when using the very latest Linux kernel and Intel Mesa driver. This is also on Ubuntu 13.10 with the latest Unity and Compiz where earlier Phoronix tests have proven this desktop environment is no longer significantly impairing the performance of Linux games.

At the low resolution of 1280 x 1024, the Intel HD Graphics 4600 was 21% faster with Windows 8 over Linux for Unvanquished with its GL3 renderer.

Besides the average frame-rate being lower with Ubuntu, there were also more spikes in the overall frame latency than under Windows 8.
