Intel GMA3150 Graphics With Ubuntu 12.10

The Xonotic results are slightly higher on Ubuntu 12.10 although the OpenGL performance improvement when going from Ubuntu 10.10 to Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS was greater. However, Xonotic is the game where the texture support is now heavily regressed and other visual rendering defects under this forthcoming Ubuntu release.

Intel OTC developers place very little focus on development and testing efforts that are pre-Ironlake with a clear majority of the work just going into SNB/IVB or the HSW/VLV enablement, so unfortunately I can't say I'm terribly surprised by driver regressions. The GMA3150 was prior to Intel beginning to take graphics performance seriously and simply from looking at these numbers its incredible to see how far they have come in two years (well, almost three years) with their latest-generation hardware. For those still using the older Intel Atoms, if the situation doesn't change, it might be best sticking out with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for the duration of the hardware's life if you care about a graphically-pleasing desktop.
