Mesa Git Delivering Faster Intel Vulkan Performance, Closer To OpenGL Driver Speed

First up are the Dota 2 Vulkan benchmarks. Unfortunately no Mesa 13.0.3 Vulkan numbers here due to Dota 2 failing with swap chain errors when trying to launch that older Mesa build.

Yep, in the past two weeks of Mesa Git there is a decently noticeable improvement in the Intel Vulkan performance. The performance improvement is likely due to the landing of the HiZ improvements linked to from the previous page.

With the Dota 2 OpenGL results we see Mesa 17.0-dev is faster than Mesa 13.0.3 stable, but no recent performance changes to speak of. With these latest Intel Vulkan driver improvements, it now puts the Vulkan driver two FPS ahead of the OpenGL driver at 800 x 600 rather than being slower than the GL driver. At the higher resolutions the Intel Vulkan driver is also now closer to parity with the Intel OpenGL driver for this Valve Linux game. The Talos Principle unfortunately wasn't launching with the current Mesa Vulkan stack so this was the only Vulkan test for this article.
