Next up are benchmarks running off battery power on both laptops while looking at the battery power consumption on a per-test basis (plus thermals). Yes, the screen sizes are different along with GPU, memory, etc between these two laptops. A best effort was made (e.g. trying to maintain the same screen brightness) for making the results comparable, but take the power numbers as you wish given the external factors at play in comparing a 2009 to 2019 laptop.

With the single-threaded PHPBench run, from the Clarksfield to Ice Lake was 5.25x the performance.

During PHPbench, the average power consumption of the Ice Lake laptop was 16.9 Watts to the Clarksfield at 38 Watts.

For this scripting language single-threaded laptop this ended up meaning 12x the performance-per-Watt on Ice Lake.

Coremark on Ice Lake was 3.6x the performance of the Clarksfield i7....

Meanwhile the i7-1065G7 laptop was drawing 20 Watts under load while the Core i7 720QN laptop was drawing on average 50 Watts. Even if factoring the other hardware differences, the Ice Lake CPU is much more efficient.

On a performance-per-Watt basis, the Core i7 1065G7 delivered over eight times the performance-per-Watt of the older laptop.

With x264 video encoding was another big difference in the power efficiency.
