Intel Linux Graphics Shine With Fedora 12

Starting off we used the video-cpu-usage test profile to monitor the CPU usage as we played back a 1080p H.264 video sample file on the three Fedora releases with X-Video. Under this setup, the lowest CPU usage was not found with Fedora 12, but actually with Fedora 10. Fedora 10 consistently had lower CPU usage than Fedora 11 and 12, but the Fedora 12 release did outperform Fedora 11 for maintaining a lower CPU usage during this test.

Next up we ran the ioquake3-powered OpenArena test profile across the spectrum of supported resolutions. With Fedora 11 though, OpenArena would not run at 1400 x 1050 or 1920 x 1080. When Fedora 11 was running at 1024 x 768, 1280 x 960, and 1280 x 1024, Leonidas actually offered the best highest frame-rate (though at 800 x 600 its performance was strangely poor). Comparing Fedora 10 and Fedora 12, the newer release (Constantine) did offer consistently higher frame-rates.
