Dota 2 Vulkan vs. OpenGL Performance Redux

While not many gamers are still running at 1280 x 1024 these days, that's where I started for this round of Dota 2 testing to ensure the performance would be CPU-limited...

The results for Dota 2 on OpenGL show the GeForce cards all capped at around 102 FPS while the Radeon hardware on AMDGPU-PRO were capped at around 90 FPS.

When switching over to the Vulkan renderer but keeping all of the same settings at 1280 x 1024, the NVIDIA cards jumped to running at around 118 FPS while the AMD hardware using the AMDGPU-PRO driver were up to around 106 FPS. In other words, Vulkan at this low resolution led to an increase of about 16% for the NVIDIA driver and 17~18% for the AMDGPU-PRO driver.

The CPU usage while running the 1280 x 1024 tests with OpenGL and then Vulkan also show the CPU usage is lower with this new Khronos graphics API.
