In some of the GpuTest OpenGL micro-benchmarks, GNOME Shell was faster than KDE Plasma -- especially on the vRAM-bound triangle test case GNOME Shell on Wayland and this test running under XWayland was substantially faster.

While in other cases, GpuTest wasn't affected one way or another by the desktop environment / compositor under use. Anyhow, that's the quick experiment done today with Clear Linux's new KDE Plasma desktop support. I'll be back with a more diverse portfolio of tests as the KDE Plasma bundles (packages) mature as well as seeing how these desktop options compare performance-wise to other popular Linux distributions.
