ASUS Eee Top Fails With Linux

This touch-based computer is not passively cooled, but ASUS advertises the Eee Top as operating under 26 dBA while running very cool, which is attributed to something called ASUS Tranquiller Technology. The Eee Top is currently targeted for those interested in an easily portable, touch-screen computer, and particularly those needing a system for multimedia purposes. Currently shipping on the ASUS Eee Top ET1602 is Microsoft Windows XP Home edition with no option for Linux.

At the back of the ASUS ET1602 is a VESA-compatible stand. This metal stand has a handle at the top, which makes the system easier to transport. While the stand itself is quite simple, it should be sturdy enough for normal tasks within a home. The ports on the back of the computer include a 10/100/1000 Ethernet, four USB 2.0, DC power input, three audio jacks for surround sound output, and a Kensington lock slot.

On the left side of the ASUS Eee Top are another two USB 2.0 ports with a memory card reader. The integrated memory card reader supports Secure Digital, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, and MultiMediaCard formats.

Above the 1360 x 768 display is the 1.3 mega-pixel web camera while below the screen are the power, volume, and brightness control buttons. Embedded into the Eee Top are dual 4 Watt speakers. The weight on the unit is just over four Kilograms.
