AMDGPU-PRO 17.10 vs. Mesa 17.1 RADV/RadeonSI Performance
Tesseract is another rare game that's still faster with AMDGPU-PRO.
Tomb Raider is running much better with RadeonSI than AMDGPU-PRO 17.10.
Xonotic is slightly faster on AMDGPU-PRO 17.10.
While there are a few exceptions, overall RadeonSI Gallium3D was faster than AMDGPU-PRO's closed-source OpenGL driver. We've seen great strides made by RadeonSI Gallium3D in the past few months while the AMDGPU-PRO OpenGL activities seem to remain almost at a standstill. The gap between the open and closed drivers has certainly been closing and AMDGPU-PRO seems to be mostly appealing these days just to professional/workstation users, but there are still these select cases (Xonotic, Tesseract, Serious Sam Fusion 2017) where we see RadeonSI has the potential for still squeezing greater performance. When it comes to Vulkan titles, the community-driven RADV was pulling up short of AMD's still-closed Vulkan driver with no clear communication from the company if/when we may finally see their code opened up.
