The Gallium3D driver controlling the Radeon HD 4870 graphics card continued to run well too when at 1280 x 1024 with VDrift.

When moving onto the OpenArena game, the Gallium3D R600g driver was noticeably faster than the R600 classic driver, but still it is many times behind the high-performance proprietary driver that AMD offers. The Gallium3D driver was approximately 32% faster than the classic Mesa driver, but the Catalyst 10.10 release was over four times faster.

Same story when running OpenArena at 1920 x 1080: ATI Gallium3D is faster than its classic Mesa driver, but the proprietary Catalyst driver is by far the fastest driver for Radeon hardware and will remain that way for the near future.
