AMD's Catalyst Evolution For The Radeon HD 7000 Series

With high and ultra quality settings in the open-source Xonotic game, which is one of the most demanding Linux-native open-source titles at the moment, the Catalyst performance on the Radeon HD 7950 has been largely flat since Catalyst 12.1 and going forward with the latest press drivers.

Overall, the performance of the Catalyst Linux drivers for the Radeon HD 7950 graphics card has been largely uninteresting. While past generations have yielded greater performance boosts shortly after launch, and the Radeon HD 7000 series GCN architecture is brand new, there is not really anything exciting out of the results shown here today. It's a bit unfortunate, but as other Phoronix articles have shown, under Linux the Radeon HD 7950 is surprisingly competitive against the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 "Kepler" graphics card.
