With some cryptographic tests from John The Ripper, the i3-2120 was faster than the FX-4100 when it came to the traditional DES performance. However, with MD5 and Blowfish the FX-4100 did surprisingly well and came in right behind the Intel Core i5 2500K.

Generally the AMD processors do relatively better than Intel CPUs with OpenSSL on Linux, but for the AMD FX-4100 it still couldn't compete with the Intel Core i3 2120. The i3-2120 was signing about 20% more per second than the low-end Bulldozer. The Intel Core i5 2500K Sandy Bridge had an advantage of 36%.
