Not only is the FirePro V5900 a nice upgrade relative to the previous-generation V5800, but also the FirePro V7900 is an even more impressive upgrade compared to the previous-generation V7800. This second Cayman-based workstation graphics card experienced a remarkable 63% improvement in performance for the EnSight SPECViewPerf test run over the earlier Cypress-based workstation graphics processor. The boost was so incredible that it was enough to beat out the higher-end FirePro V8700 and V8800 by a noticeable margin.

When the EnSight resolution was increased to 2560 x 1600, the FirePro V7900 still held its position relative to the rest of the FirePro family. The FirePro V7900 was 45% faster than the FirePro V8800 in this workstation OpenGL benchmark was; it will be incredible to see what sort of gains come out of the expected FirePro V8900 or even FirePro V9900 as a result of the new Cayman GPUs.
