Those buying the new socketed Kabini APUs with Radeon R3 Graphics and intend to use them with the open-source RadeonSI Gallium3D driver, upgrading the Linux kernel and Mesa components is highly recommended for providing better performance. The key versions to look for will be the Linux 3.14 kernel and Mesa 10.2-devel. While not officially supported, if you want to upgrade your kernel and drivers on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, read our Ubuntu upgrade guide. Stay tuned for more AMD AM1 APU Linux benchmarks -- including with the AMD Catalyst Linux driver -- in the days ahead.
