With the HMMer molecular biology test, the AMD parts returned to being competitive with Intel. The A10-5800K for HMMer was only a slight improvement over the A8-3870K, but still it was faster than the Core i3 CPUs and when overclocked it beat out the i5-2400S.

While AMD processors had trouble with some of the earlier scientific tests, when it comes to John The Ripper with the Blowfish performance, they do very well. The A10-5800K at its stock frequencies was right ahead of the Intel Core i5 2500K. When overclocked, the A10-5800K at 4.4GHz outperformed the Ivy Bridge Core i5 3470.
