When running Tesseract at 3840 x 2160, the fastest graphics cards were the HD 7950 and the R9 270X. While the Radeon R9 290 is the fastest GPU of the bunch based on hardware specs, with the Linux 3.17 kernel there's still some apparent re-clocking issues causing the R9 290 Hawaii graphics card to not perform optimally... While the R9 290 was slow, at least it finally has working mainline OpenGL acceleration after some important fixes landed for Linux 3.17 along with updated Hawaii microcode.

With a Radeon HD 7950 and R9 270X you can comfortably run open-source titles like Warsow at around 100 FPS.
