With the highly-threaded NPB EP test, we see right away the EPYC 7401P coming in line with expectations in between the 7351P and 7601. The EPYC 7351P beats out a single Xeon Gold 6138 that retails for more than two grand while the EPYC 7401P at about half the cost of that rival Intel server CPU is a much better performer.

The Xeon Gold 6138 with its more than two grand price tag gets you a 20 core / 40 thread Skylake Xeon Scalable CPU with 2.0GHz base frequency and 3.7GHz turbo and 27.5MB L3 cache... While the EPYC 7401P at just over one thousand dollars is 24 cores / 48 threads, 2.0GHz base frequency, 3.0GHz turbo, and 64MB L3 cache size. The EPYC parts also supports eight DDR4-2666 channels rather than six channels, a benefit for memory intensive workloads.
