Depending upon the particular NPB workload under test, the speed of the different Linux distributions vary. Generally though, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was the fastest while Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 was generally the slowest. This is not too very surprising though with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS having GCC 4.6 while RHEL and Amazon had GCC 4.4 these OpenMP-based Fortran-written test cases. Amazon's Linux distribution was then generally in second and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server in third.
