Benchmarking Amazon's Graviton2 Performance With 64 Neoverse N1 Cores Against Intel Xeon, AMD EPYC

So now that we see the M6g instances offering great performance and value against similarly sized x86_64 current-generation instances, the second set of results is looking at the bare metal performance. The M6g bare metal performance with all 64 cores was compared to various Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC processors running locally at Phoronix. The m6g.metal and x86_64 tests were all run on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Graviton2 EC2 M6G Benchmarks

The Graviton2 bare metal instance came in shy of an EPYC 7262 2P setup but ahead of the dual Xeon Gold 6250 for the HPCG benchmark primarily stressing the system's interconnect performance.

With some workloads the Graviton2 performance was well short of any of the x86_64 server CPUs tested, which in part can be attributed to some software projects not optimizing (well or at all) for AArch64.
