ATI Open vs. Closed-Source Performance

While the fglrx driver had still outperformed the open-source solution, the results were much closer than in any of our past articles on this subject. The Radeon X800XL 256MB with the open-source driver had performed about 12 frames on average less than the fglrx driver. However, these twelve frames just equated to the open-source solution being almost 80% the speed of the official driver. This is certainly an improvement for the open-source side where the performance difference in the past was much greater.
