Creative Ways To Open Beer With Computer Hardware

At hand first was an old XGI Volari graphics card with an AGP interface. As the PCB for the graphics card (and most expansion cards) are to brittle to be able to pop off a bottle cap, we ended up using the graphics card's retention plate for the AGP slot as well as the DVI/VGA connector to force off the top. It took a few minutes of wrangling, but we ended up being able to open the beer within a few minutes.

As you can see from the pictures, it's relatively easy to remove the cap until the metal starts bending. To prevent from injuring yourself, you may want to wear gloves or use another form of protection from poking yourself on any of the card's circuitry. As it requires a good amount of force and the beer may explode, we would recommend attempting this from the floor over some towels or other coverings. Of all the hardware we had tried, using a graphics card was among the easier ways of opening a brew, but not the easiest.

Aside from the XGI Volari opener, we had also turned a NVIDIA GeForce 7800GTX into a bottle opener. Well, it was only a half of the PCI-E 7800GTX due to NVIDIA not yet opening their GPU specifications. We repeated the same process as the XGI opener and it worked out just as well.
