While there is not a night and day difference in the level of performance between our last Intel benchmarks and today's tests, there did seem to be a minor performance boost. In addition, the open-source Intel driver had now worked better with Unreal Tournament 2004 where it had failed in the past. In one Unreal Tournament 2004 benchmark, the GMA 3000 had even out-performed the Radeon X300SE. Certainly great progress has been made with the open-source Intel Linux graphics driver, but much work is left to be accomplished. The Intel driver will not be ready for Unreal Tournament 3 (2007) or Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, but the driver is certainly instrumental for desktop users and those enjoying the vast variety of open-source games. For being an integrated graphics processor, the GMA 3000 is not that bad. As further progress is made with these drivers we will be here to cover them.
