Tyan Tempest i5000XL S2692
For comparison purposes, we had compared the Tyan Tempest i5000XL to the previously reviewed Tyan Tiger i7520SD S5365 setup. The Tiger i7520SD was paired with DDR2 ECC Registered memory and two Intel Xeon LV processors each clocked at 2.0GHz. With the Tempest i5000XL, FB-DIMM modules were used as well as individually testing an Intel Xeon 5080 (3.73GHz) and Xeon 5060 (3.20GHz).

When using the Tyan Tempest i5000XL with Fedora Core 5, there were no problems with the motherboard. In fact, LM_Sensors v2.10 had even worked with the motherboard once loading the w83627ehf-isa-0c00 module. However, the only sensors to report correct readings were system, CPU1, and temp3. Initially the integrated Gigabit networking was not detected; however, once installing the 2.6.17 kernel it had worked fine. The motherboard is supposed to be capable of running NVIDIA SLI, but when trying SLI with the 1.0-8762 NVIDIA Linux display drivers we were unsuccessful in our attempts. Using our results from our recent Tyan Tiger i7520SD testing, the benchmarks used were Gzip Compression, LAME Compilation, LAME Encoding, and FreeBench. Also used solely on the Tempest i5000XL was Enemy Territory and Doom 3 with the PCI Express x16 graphics.
