With each FB-DIMM slot on the Tyan Tempest i5000XL motherboard having its own memory channel, there should be serious bandwidth advantages over the traditional dual channel competition. To look at the bandwidth effects of two versus four memory channels, we have prepared some additional tests. These tests solely look at the Tempest i5000XL motherboard when two FB-DIMM slots were occupied with the Kingston KVR533D2SS8F4/512 memory, and then the results from earlier when all four slots were filled with the memory. On top of RAMspeed, we have also prepared four additional benchmarks to look at the real-world performance. The tests used for demonstration purposes were Enemy Territory, Doom 3, LAME Compilation, and LAME Encoding. On the following pages are our results from these tests.
