Spire RockeTeer V SP-500W
While Spire has been in existence since 1991 as a provider of computer thermal solutions, today is our first time trying out any of their high-end power supply units. In the past, we have sampled their various heatsinks and cooling contraptions with relatively great success, but will their power supplies share similar winning traits? The PSU we have our hands on today is the Spire RockeTeer V SP-500W. The SP-500W is supportive of NVIDIA's Scalable Link Interface; however, at the time of publishing it is not presently certified by NVIDIA for SLI usage. Some of the other features include modular EZ--cable power connections and two LED ball bearing fans.

Receiving the Spire PSU retail package, its cardboard packaging was faintly larger than most other power supply containers we have come across in recent months. On the exterior of the container are various views of the power supply unit as well as information pertaining specifically to the SP-500W model. Opening up the container, the modular cables were contained inside of a smaller cardboard housing while encasing the actual PSU was a layer of bubble-wrap. On top of the various modular cables and the PSU itself were Velcro straps for easier wire management, two zip-ties, four mounting screws, US power cable, and the power supply manual. With the RockeTeer V SP-500W, Spire does go beyond the traditional PSU contents by a bit with the extra cable management items, but for the most part it is the de facto standard of included components. Other power supplies in the RockeTeer series include the RocKeteer VI SP-600W, RockeTeer IV SP-ATX-600W, RockeTeer III SP-ATX-500W, RockeTeer II SP-ATX-400W, and finally the RockeTeer SP-ATX-300W.
