Radeon Instinct Hopes To Compete With NVIDIA For Machine Learning, AI
AMD/RTG is trying to better compete with NVIDIA in the AI and machine learning space with the introduction of Radeon Instinct.
Radeon Instinct is a combination of new hardware accelerators paired with a software stack built off the Radeon Open eCosystem Platform (ROCm). Radeon Instinct is designed for workloads like Caffe, Torch 7, TensorFlow, and more.
The accelerators announced are the MI6, MI8, and MI25. The MI25 is their highest-end offering today and features a Vega GPU yet all of these MI Instinct products are passively-cooled. MI25 Vega hopes to compete with NVIDIA's P100 accelerator and has less than a 300 Watt TDP, HBM memory, and FP16 support. The MI6 and MI8 make use of Polaris. The hardware will be shipping in 2017 while the open-source ROCm software stack continues advancing.
Those wishing to learn more about the Radeon Instinct initiative can visit Radeon.com. No word yet if I'll have access to any of these new accelerators for benchmarking with ROCm.
