AMDGPU Gets RPM Fan Info, Clock/Power-Gating Improvements & More For Linux 4.10

Last month AMD sent out their big feature pull to DRM-Next for staging ahead of Linux 4.10 while now a secondary feature pull request has been sent in of more material for this next kernel development series.

Last month's Radeon/AMDGPU DRM-Next 4.10 code had support for multiple virtual displays, a new VM manager, support for UVD power-gating on more hardware, power management improvements, more fixes, and other fun.

With today's DRM-Next pull request there is more code cleaning, RPM-based fan information is now exposed via hwmon, many clock and power-gating fixes, and lots of other fixes. The Southern Islands register headers have been cleaned up too, in order to be a common format used by the newer GPUs.

Basically lots of fixes/clean-ups, the RPM fan speed information via hwmon will please some, and power-gating/clock fixes are always welcome.

Before anyone asks, there isn't anything in the AMDGPU 4.10 code about making CIK or SI hardware by default, they will remain experimental options for the immediate future. There also isn't any DAL code for Linux 4.10, but that work is progressing.

More details on this latest pull request via amd-gfx. This pull has 55,685 insertions and 1205 deletions, but the vast majority of that new code is due to the register header changes.
