LINUX GAMING
Ryan "Icculus" Gordon, the former Loki Software employee who's single-handedly ported many games to Linux and Mac OS X in the years since, will be talking about gaming on Linux this weekend.

Now that the X.Org Foundation finally discussed at length -- and then approved -- my Chicago XDS proposal, I started today on formally planning this year's X.Org developers' event to take place this September in Chicago. But what's important here in that making contact with several area universities and other Chicago organizations today in finding a suitable venue (there's some promising leads, but if anyone has any ideas, contact me) is that several individuals mentioned Flourish.

Flourish is a Chicago open-source event I previously had not heard of, but it's organized by students at University of Illinois at Chicago. It actually looks quite interesting and kudos to those organizing this free event.

What really caught my attention though on the schedule is that Ryan "Icculus" Gordon will be speaking.

Ryan will be talking about gaming on Linux. "This talk will explore the history of video games on open source platforms, from Zork to First Person Shooters. We will discuss the games, the companies, the players, and which games and business models created an Epic Win."

It's been six years since I last provided a Phoronix interview with Ryan Gordon, so maybe it's time for a new interview.

If anyone has any questions for Ryan, post them in the comments. I haven't yet talked with Ryan, but hopefully he will answer some non-UT3-related (he still won't publicly talk about Unreal Tournament 3 for Linux) questions for those interested. Or maybe he will talk more about the problems with open-source GPU drivers and his distaste for them currently. Regardless of whether he chooses to answer any questions this time, I'll gladly buy him some good beers.
